Apple has been partnering with our local network providers, Globe and Smart in bringing mobile devices to their subscribers. Globe was the first and exclusive dealer of iPhone back in 2008. For three years, they were the only network to get license from apple. Last October, Smart finally got the dealership license for the new model iPhone 4s. It was December 16 of last year when both network released their new Plans for their subscribers.
A lot of people are saying that Smart network is better than Globe when it comes to internet connection. I’m not really a Smart user, so I’m not familiar with their services. But I do have a Smart Bro stick and it works pretty much okay.
I’m not also familiar with the plans they offer. Though a when I was still contemplating as to whether I’d get a postpaid line for an iPhone 4s or not, I was also thinking of what network to avail. I tried comparing the Plans offered by both Globe and Smart. At first look, it seems that Smart offers a lower plan compared to Globe. But when you drill down on the freebies and what comes with the plan, I think Globe’s offers are better and worth the money more (this is just my observation so for Smart fanatics, don’t get angry with me).
Before we go to Postpaid, let’s first look at the iPhone 4S Pre-paid prices.
For prepaid kits, Smart wins the “More Affordable” award, hands-down. Their prices are down by Php 5,000 more or less compared to Globe’s prepaid plans.
For Postpaid, this is where it gets arguable. Look closely at the tables below:
I’ll concentrate my review on the Postpaid PLAN for iPhone 4S 16GB. I believe that to fully maximize the use of an iPhone, one has to have an internet connection at all times. So for someone like me who works at day and come home late at night, an iPhone without unlimited surfing would mainly be just a phone and a gadget with some apps, games and music.
Best Deal for me:
1st Choice – Globe’s unli Surf Combo Plan 1799 for 4s 16GB
Why? Cash-out is only Php 4800, it’s Unlimited surfing, I get to pick three freebies and there’s an Php 800 consumable which I could use for my calls and text or whatever.
2nd Choice – Smart’s Unlimited Data Plan 2000 for 4s 16GB
Why? Cash-out is only Php 2500, it’s unlimited surfing, I get 150 minutes free calls and 200 free SMS. However, in this plan, I don’t get any consumable amount.
Choosing a postpaid plan will really depend on your needs. So before deciding, make sure you know what are the things that you really need or want, like unlimited internet, free calls or free SMS, etc.
These plans all have a 24months locked in period.

great that smart got hold of the iphone now, globe has a competition. i just wouldn’t understand why iphone’s so pricey^_^
as per the data plan, smart 3g around our place is superrrrr slooow. same with smartbro. but, i guess, it depends whether u are near the radius a base is located.

i just got signed for globe`s unli mobile internet for 999/month. since i already have an iphone, i just got the line only. and guess what? i`m heading towards globe tomorrow the moment they open to have my subscription cancelled. why? because the service they give defeats the purpose of getting an unli mobile internet plan. weak 3g cignal in my house (i live in the city area), the 3g appears only in open spaces like on the streets, etc. i`m so disappointed and i`m planning to switch to smart instead.
May i know the requirements for applying this kind of plans for globe..pls…
Wow. This really helped a lot. Thank you so much for posting this.
can u elaborate more
and please answer these noob questions.
1) what is cash out?
2) if i will avail the Globe’s unli Surf Combo Plan 1799 for 4s 16GB, will i be paying
1799 * 24months = php43,176 in two years time?
3) if after paying the whole amount in two years then there’s nothing more i’ll be paying and i
totally owned the phone?
4) and will i save money if i avail this plan than buying the phone at the apple store?
Your response is greatly appreciated.

Answer:
1.) This will be tha cash you have to pay aside from your advance PhP 1,799 MSF (Monthly Service Fee) before you get your iPhone 4s. You may also choose to use your credit card for a 0% installment of your initial cash out.
2.) Yes you will have the accumulated amount of 43,176 after 2 years of paying PhP1,799. This includes unlimited surfing and an PhP 800 consumable amount. Take note that this “consumable amount” can only be used for calls, text and Value-Added Services, all on a regular rate. PhP 800 consumable amount can not be used/converted to Unli services.
3.) Yes after 2 years the phone is all yours.
4.) If you have enough cash it’s better to buy it at the Apple Store.
