What do you know about home repair?

So I’m a total fluke when it comes to home repair or maintenance. I don’t have any idea on how to fix any damages, make necessary adjustments, home repairs, tube cleanings, etc. Before when I was single and still living with my father, I leave it to him. Now that I’m married, I leave it to my husband.

A friend of mine was telling me about an instance when her husband was out of town and she was left alone in their home for two weeks. She has this lovely garden that she attends to everyday. Now just a day after her husband left, the garden hose broke down or something (see, i can’t even tell what exactly happened on the hose). Since she doesn’t have anyone to go for help to fix the problem, she tried to fix it herself. What she did was she bought a cheap hose and tried to use that for here gardening. Despite the new cheap hose, she’s still having problems with the water because, unfortunately, the hose can’t handle the high pressure of the water.

To cut the story short, she sought help from a plumber or I don’t know what you call that person who knows how to properly fix the garden hose. Basically, the man just replaced the broken hose with a braided hose so that it will carry the pressure of the water.

Needless to say, I myself learned a lesson from here story. Us girls should not rely on guys always for home improvements. We should also learn the in’s and out’s of home repair so that when they’re not around and something comes up, we can handle it on our own.

We need a plumbing repair!

Have you ever experienced going inside your bathroom and planning to take a nice bath, and then finding your bathroom flooded and water dripping from above because of a leaking pipe? Well, I have and we’re still experiencing it as I’m writing this post.

Everytime there’s rain, I already know what to expect inside our bathroom. A dripping ceiling and a wet floor. This because a pipe that runs through the bathroom from the rooftop has a leak. I already asked my husband to fix that, but he actually doesn’t know anything about plumbing repair. That leaves us to hiring a plumber.

While this leaking problem doesn’t have a fix yet, I’m trying to find ways to at least have a use for problem. One thing I thought of doing is to maximize the water dripping. I positioned our pail just below the dripping water so that it gets everything. That is what we use for flushing the toilet instead of its own flush. Haha!! This way, we’re saving water from our faucet. Nice huh! :)

After this plumbing problem is fixed, we’ll have to ask the plumber to check other pipes around the house, so if ever he will find another problem or would be problem, it can be repaired right away and not cause another problem in the future.
